Card Chronicles: Devious Deck is a roguelike deckbuilder, where every card played comes at the cost of the player's health points.

How to Play

  • Movement: Use WASD to walk around.
  • Camera Rotation: Rotate the camera by 90 degrees with Q and E.
  • Menu: Open the menu with TAB or by clicking the button in the upper right corner.
  • Change Card Deck: In the menu, you can change your card deck.
  • Questions: If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Cards

Cards are the central aspect of Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. There are five types of cards:

  • Attack Cards: Cards that deal physical damage
  • Magic Cards: Cards that deal magical damage
  • Skill Cards: Cards that deal damage and have additional effect
  • Boost Cards: Cards that boost your stats
  • World Cards: Cards that alter the rules of the game

Fighting with Cards

You can have up to three of the same cards in your deck. Any extras will be stored in your stash. In battle, all cards in your deck will be shuffled, and you will draw three each turn. Unused cards will be returned to your deck each turn, while used cards will be put into your discard pile.

Equipping Cards

In addition to the three cards you draw each turn, you can equip a 'Base Attack' and a 'Base Boost.' You will have access to these each turn, as they won't be put into your discard pile after use.

To equip cards in the specific slots, you will need to have the corresponding card in your stash. You can either move one from your deck into your stash, or it may already be there. From there, it can be equipped in the appropriate slot.

Combos

Combos are available if you play the same card in a row. They boost hit probability and decrease the card's cost. If you can use a combo, the corresponding card will have a pink outline.

Interactions

To interact with anything in the game world, simply walk into it. If interaction is possible, something will happen.

Thank you for trying out the demo of Card Chronicles: Devious Deck. As a solo developer, I'm excited to share this early version with you to test new features and gather your valuable feedback before they make it into the full release.

What to Expect:

  • Gameplay Focus: This demo is designed to test the core gameplay mechanics with a broader audience. Currently, many features are stripped down to focus on the fundamental experience.
  • Dungeon Exploration: Traverse the first 5 floors of a maze-like dungeon, where your main objective is to find the way to the next floor.
  • Enemies: Face off against 4 distinct enemies. While their behavior is intentionally simplistic—each enemy can only use one of two attacks each turn—this will help me focus on balancing and refining the core gameplay.
  • Quest System: Acquire new cards by accepting quests at the questboard (a grey panel in the starting area) or by finding chests within the dungeon floors.
  • Awful Sound Design: Be prepared for many rough edges in the sound design, as this is still an early version and improvements are ongoing.
  • Weekly Updates: New features, updates to existing ones, and bug fixes are planned to be rolled out on a weekly cycle.

My Intention:

This demo serves as a means to test new features and refine the gameplay based on your feedback. Your insights are crucial in helping me improve and enhance the game for its full release. I plan to add more content and other features over time.

Feedback and Bug Reporting:

I would love to hear your thoughts! Please share your feedback, suggestions, and any issues you encounter through the reporting system. Each player who discovers a new, unknown bug has a chance to be mentioned in the game's credits once the final version is released.

Support:

If you want to support the development of  Card Chronicles: Devious Deck, please consider wishlisting the game on Steam or subscribing to my newsletter to get notified once the game is released. Your support means the world to me and helps increase the game's visibility.

Thank you for playing and supporting the development of Card Chronicles: Devious Deck! Enjoy your adventure in an unkown world and the depths of its dungeon.
